Recycling FAQ

The State of Colorado will soon be implementing free recycling services for all residential homes across Colorado. There will be no charge for this service. You may still see recycling listed on your bill, as this helps our system identify participating households so we can efficiently prepare and route services for your area.

The city of Colorado Springs does not have a weekly recycling program but you’re in luck SOCO Waste does!

After August of 2026 all recycling should be bi-weekly due to the new state epr law taking affect.

Colorado’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law (HB22–1355), enacted in 2022, mandates that companies producing, selling, or distributing packaging and paper products fund and manage the state’s recycling system, with full implementation beginning in 2026. This law shifts cost from taxpayers to producers, aiming to provide free, universal recycling access for residents.

This program should be active by August of 2026 but we do not have a clear date currently.

SOCO Waste can pick up your curbside recycling weekly.

At SOCO Waste we try to keep it simple. We pick up your curbside recycling on the same day as your trash service.

After August of 2026 we may be picking up recycling bi weekly due to the state epr law.

In Colorado Springs you will find many places that recycle different items such as concrete, asphalt, metal, televisions, mattresses, computer screens, and we even have a local composter. If we do not take the items, please call us so we can refer you to the appropriate place (719) 357-8855.

Plastic bags, Styrofoam, pet waste, tree branches, lawn debris, televisions, computers, food waste, scrap metal, monitors, ac units, refrigerators.

Your recycling label can help you learn what is or is not accepted in the bins and can be a guide for anyone else in your household.

Please flatten and break down all cardboard boxes into 2’x2′ or smaller sheets, rinse out all jugs, jars, cans or anything that has had any food waste inside of it.

If you just moved in and set up service, we will take your extra boxes for the first two weeks at no additional charge.  After the first two weeks every recycle item needs to be inside of the cart and ready for pick up.  We do not pick up extra recycle items outside of the cart.

Unfortunately, the recycle stations in Colorado Springs do not take Styrofoam.

No, The recycle stations do not take plastic bags because they get into the machinery and jam things up! If you have excess bags and would like to recycle them, many local grocery stores can help!

Yes, you can put your glass jars in your recycling cart.

We take all of our recycling to the recycling transfer stations in Colorado Springs. When we dump it is pushed onto belts, sorted out and sent off to its appropriate destination.

We accept commingled recyclables and when you have our service you place your unsorted recyclables in your cart then we pick them up and transport them to one of our preferred recycle stations.
